SpiderCapo Tunings Compendium

There are 63 possible tunings at each fret of the guitar. Each fret offers new, unique tuning possibilities. Calculating up to the 15th fret that equals 945 possible tunings without touching a tuning peg!  That’s a lot of room for individual selection, taste, sound, and identity.

The tunings are shown from the lowest - bass - 6th string “E”, to the highest - treble - 1st string “E”. Like this: [6th,5th,4th,3rd,2nd,1st]. Example: [000400] is SpiderCapo at 4th fret and only 3rd string, G, is depressed. So, the number corresponds to the fret at which the SpiderCapo is applied.

We’re hoping to compile an archive of different tunings people are using and enjoying.  We’d love to add yours! Please drop an email to spidercapo@gmail.com

It seems more and more common practice today for large corporations to forgo the paperwork and licensing fees to use popular songs in their commercials, opting instead for cheap sound-a-likes.  And though the original inspiration often shines through (which is the point - you want the audience to recognize the tune, and thus engage in the ad), the riffs have been altered just enough to get away with it.

However, in the case of this recent Microsoft ad, it’s very hard for Microsoft to mount a defense against completely stealing from Arcade Fire.  Maybe in the future, change at least ONE progression…

So how many times are you like “man I wish I could change my tuning without having to retune the whole uke?

Ever wonder about the decision-making process that goes into allowing your song to be featured in a television advertisement?  Well, you won’t find much elucidation here.  However, it’s still interesting to read about The Black Keys, they’re recording process, and their feelings on music, marketing, and “selling-out.”

A BLAST FROM THE PAST

Our culture moves at breakneck speed these days.  It’s easy for things to get lost or forget things from the past with all the information we are constantly assaulted with.  That includes helpful blogposts!  So today, while people are digging out of the snow, we’re digging up an oldie but a goodie from the Spider Capo tumblr vault.  Enjoy…

A Spider for Every Artist

The spider capo expands the capabilities of the guitar according to the inclination or direction of the player.

Try wacky things! Try random things! You bring your own wackiness and randomness to the guitar. No one else has the same. I know I have found things uniquely mine this way.

This is very satisfying. And artful.

You may find things that are uniquely you, and help you establish your identity as a player.

For example, my friend Dave puts the SpiderCapo on the 10th fret, and depresses only the high  E string [0,0,0,0,0,10]. He gets his unique sound. .I would never do this. Each to his own!

[Note: remove unused FINGERS from the SpiderCapo. In this example, Dave could take off all but one. Why? Greater access. Less is more.]

NEW!! Mini SpiderCapo!

NEW!! Mini SpiderCapo!

…SpiderCapo - i’ve tried these out and love them. They allow you to capo just some strings or all of them. That means you can capo chords, but then when you play higher up on the neck, everything is still in standard tuning because you didn’t actually raise the pitch. Great for acoustic songwriters who like open notes that you couldn’t fret with 4 fingers.

No not that one.  The other one.
